Job Title: Chairman
Jonson was first appointed as non-executive chairman of Ofwat in September 2012 and reappointed at the end of last year until October 2020. He was drafted in at a time of difficult relationships between regulator and regulated companies and has led the renewal of the board, management and strategy. Jonson has a long history in the water industry, having led the turnarounds of two large troubled water companies, Yorkshire Water in the late 1990s and Anglian Water Group plc in the 2004 -2010 period. He maintains other interests in infrastructure and in business turnarounds. Jonson is a member of advisory council for I Squared Capital, a $3bn infrastructure fund investing in mid-size commercial infrastructure opportunities in energy, waste, transport globally. He led the restructuring of UK Coal plc 2011 to 2013 and continues as chairman of Harworth Group Plc (formerly UK Coal plc, now a brownfield regeneration specialist). He also serves as chairman of London’s waste from energy group, Cory, which is owned by distressed debt funds. Jonson was a founder board member of the Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change from 2005 to 2010.
